View Full Version : Let's share music videos!

This thread is for sharing your favourite music videos. I figure since we've got this whole 'embed YouTube videos' thingy, we might as well make use of it.

Note: NSFW stuff is permissible, but MAKE SURE YOU LABEL IT AS SUCH. That includes songs with NSFW lyrics.

Anyway, I'll get us started:

Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiSkyEyBczU)
I'm not a huge fan of Seattle grunge, but I love this song, and the video is just perfect. I remember seeing it as a kid and being thoroughly freaked out and then having a dream that our sun turned into a black hole and we ALL DIED.

Rammstein - Amerika (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w9EksAo5hY)
Unlike most anti-American songs, this one has a sense of fun and irony about it, which I think the video captures pretty nicely. Also, it's just a good tune, I think.

Aphex Twin - Windowlicker (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1P3Wc-37pC4)
Hilarious, horrifying, and NSFW.

Radiohead - Just (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5X7HKxpiQA)
Before Radiohead disappeared up their own arseholes, they used to make funny, interesting music videos. This is one of them.

OKAY. I'M DONE NOW. YOUR TURN.

Excellent picks all 'round. Remember seeing Blackhole Sun ages ago and loving it, I especially like how they have the roasting barbie doll scene next to the part with the chick sun bathing.
Used to be a big fan of Rammstein, but their clips IIRC weren't that great. Amerika is pretty damn awesome though. More imagery that shows what's wrong with not just America but the life style that is taking hold across the world, nice self-referential ending too.
Don't think I've gotten a chance to see the other clips before, Aphex Twin clip is God damned bizarre and hilarious. The Radiohead clip is pretty interesting. I know the guy at the end of the clip probably said nothing (and it's meant to be left to your imagination) but I want to know it anyway :P

Anyways, here's my contributions. Made up of stuff I've been listening to lately.
Peeping Tom - Mojo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pcvBFFflEc&fmt=6&fs=1)More commentary on first world culture.

The Knife - Like a Pen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phocgLDh3KY&fmt=6)All of The Knife's clips are pretty great, but this is the most... interesting. I can link to some more if anyone's interested.

Ladytron - Destroy Everything You Touch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yaEwcmrR4Q&fmt=6&fs=1)Not my favourite song, but probably their most interesting film clip.

The Blood Brothers - Laser Life (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwZ0OuUrDes&fmt=6&fs=1)Not a particularly amazing clip, but I'm including it 'cause Blood Brothers. Film clip is pretty neat though. I swear, almost ALL of their songs would be AMAZING if they had film clips done with muppets. Especially Rats and rats and rats for Candy. I wish someone with a bajillions of money would make it happen.

MSI - Never Wanted To Dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UR0UkTiKxmc&fmt=6&fs=1)DDR party! Woo! Must confess I actually just watched the clip for the first time now :P

That Knife clip is pretty rad. Nice tune too - reminds me a bit of FischerSpooner, although slightly mellower.

OK, more "The Knife" for kicks...
The Knife - Marble House (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WhQ5TiBHVk&fmt=6&fs=1)
The Knife - Silent Shout (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxqeRMoYA5g&fmt=6&fs=1)
The Knife - We Share Our Mother's Health (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=617ANIA5Rqs&fmt=6&fs=1)The Knife is pretty God damned unlike any of my past favourite bands, but they're way way up there now. Dramatically affected my taste in music in general.

Edit: You want a limit on how many vidyas per post?

I don't normally watch video clips. I like Knights of Cydonia, though. I like the Rammstein Amerika one too.. good tune and unlike most anti-American ones, it's not in English :P

Sadly, there is an English version, and it's terrible. I suspect they were forced to do it by their record company, because they put absolutely no effort into it.

These are somewhat NSFW, but hilarious.

Abraham Lincoln stars in GAY BAR (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTN6Du3MCgI)

Danger High Voltage! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQQeg3jYgOA)

Caution: Boobies, brought to you by Dionysos.

This one is safe for work, but NOT SAFE FOR THE SANITY!

Klaus Nomi- Lightening Strikes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gma5IUNMTn0)

And something just for fun (countertenors) damn you Andreas Scholl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRe16N_UziY)

I have terrible taste in music.

Music! I love music! And I love sharing! Yay!

*Scurries over to Youtube. Dismays over the fact the King Crimsons debut album doesn't have any decent fan made music videos.*

First up: Portishead - Glorybox.

God I love me some Portishead. Beth Gibbons has the most amazing voice. If only we could harness the power of her voice and use it as any energy source - think of the possibilities!

Glorybox (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yF-GvT8Clnk)

Secondly: Late of The Pier - The Bears Are Coming

Quite possibly the most bizzare video I've seen of late - a strange barrage of imagery. Not a bad song either - like if Syd Barret got his hands on some Synths and took loads of Cocaine.

The Bears Are Coming (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0unB04j_lw)

Thirdly: Nine Inch Nails - Closer

Trent Reznor is the sexy industrial god of the 90's. Admit it. We all would.

Closer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdLbT-ssx3A)

You have wonderful taste in music, Mr. Leel.

That said, I've never really liked the Closer clip - or any of NIN's videos, for that matter. Actually, no! I liked that video from The Fragile ... the one where it zooms in (out?) on his skin.

Also, I'd forgotten how good Portishead is.

You have wonderful taste in music, Mr. Leel.

Aww shucks! *blush*

EDIT:

The Knife sound pretty cool - female fronted alternative electro never sounded so down beat - and I mean that as a complement.

That Ladytron song sounds pretty nifty as well - you can't go wrong with overdrive bass and an organ.

ANOTHER EDIT:

ME ON RADIOHEAD:

I think with the exception of In Rainbows (which I actually think was a return to form in some respects) most recent Radiohead albums (pretty much everything post OK Computer) don't really do it for me - they seem a little too contrived. Experimentalism in music works best I think when comes about natually.

In Radiohead's later albums (particularly Kid A and Amnesiac) it felt rather forced - they're were lots of nice ideas and possible directions for the band to go in but nothing really solid in the way of material to back it up.

It felt sort of like Radiohead were taking you through they're vinyl collection and saying, "look at all the clever and obscure music we listen to! Aren't we clever and obscure by association?" I mean don't get me wrong they were far from terrible albums just a bit underwhelming.

But then again I didn't really grow up with them - they're more of a recent discovery for me - so perhaps that distorts my perception of them.

That is because The Prodigy is the best thing ever and only those completely devoid of taste could possibly dislike them.

That said, most of their music videos suck balls. SMBU is a rare exception - and suits the track perfectly.

Excellent choice with the Justice video - its far from the best song on the album but even average Justice is still pretty epic. Cross was by far one of the best albums to come out of 2007 - its just a pity Justice can't seem to select singles for shit.

For those you unfamiliar with Justice I recommend the following. Its not an actual music video so much as a picture of a cross with Justice's Genesis playing over it but its the best I can offer until such time as Justice releases this brilliant track as a single -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThKNt-GY1ww

Best listened to at full volume.

In the dark.

While dressed in a toga.

And if you like that I highly recommend Digitalism (they're a sort of German equivilant with a little bit more of an indie rock influence). The video's a bit crappy and the "single mix" is a little rushed - the originals a bit more paced - but what the hey.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQIfhqUbKR0

And while I'm at it I'll throw in a bit of Does It Offend You, Yeah? - there a british electro rock duo heavily indebted to Death From Above 1979 - the lead singer of which does vocals on this track. They stand out for being one of the few Dance Punk bands to come out of the current British scene that actually has a set of nuts. The video's pretty fab as well.

Also, that Justice track was pretty rad, Leel. I'm gonna have to check that shit out, I think. I quite like that dirty electro sound.

The Rapture are the single most happy band on the planet - and I mean genuinely happy none of this anoying "iRoNy" crap that you get from most indie dance pop bands these days. They're unashamed, unadulterated jolly from start to finish.

Speaking of bands who have got the groove lets go back in time a bit to a dance punk duo that hold a very special place in my heart (and fuck do I miss them) -

Death From Above 1979 - Romantic Rights (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI6eJwwGfx8)

These guys are the singular reason I brought a bass guitar.

And grew a tache.

And brought a white suit.

For those of you who haven't heard my official BESTBANDEVAR! Oh man does Prodigy go off live, eh Dan? Man, I was sweating so hard in the mosh pit, but I didn't care. I actually only started caring when two separate fights broke out near me and some dudes started climbing the rafters and started shaking them. Damn Gold Coasters are nuts.

For some reason I thought the album was out already, no wonder I couldn't find it anywhere.

See now, I don't understand that at all. All the Prodigy gigs I've been to have always - always - been really good natured. People are pumped, but there's never any fighting or anything like that. Which is the way it should be: the Prodigy's music is about energy, not aggression. They're not fucking Slayer.

But yes: I was thoroughly impressed by the gig I went to, not least of all because they played Voodoo People, which I've been hankering to see live for ten years. And all the new stuff was great. I haven't been this excited for a new album in a long time.

I expect that I'm posting this simply because I'm shocked that someone with a Youtube account actually bothered to do something modestly creative. The photographs towards the end take it a bit too far, but otherwise I quite enjoy watching basic stop motion video. It always reminds me of that shonky implied blowjob scene from Ghostbusters, and, as we all know, sex with ghosts is totally hot (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100014/).

It also almost certainly ends in bestiality, which is only slightly illegal. Or maybe it’s very illegal. Whatever – it doesn’t matter how illegal it is so long as you thought that hairy freak was a hot chick to begin with, right?

I should probably stop this before I hurt myself :/
