He was 71.

The cause of death was heart failure. Mr. Carlin, who had a history of heart problems, went into the hospital on Sunday afternoon after complaining of heart trouble. The comedian had worked last weekend at The Orleans in Las Vegas.

Since nothing else has come to mind, I'll repeat what I said last night:

My first thought was, "great, the ratio of smart/funny/sane people to all the rest just got that bit worse".

Whenever you go to a random, ignorant, bumper-sticker atheist website, you see YouTube videos of him plastered all over the place. I am not a fan.

A lesson hard to learn, but something should be judged on its own merits, not those of its fans.

I was never that into him, but I am into a similar comedian, Doug Stanhope.

I can see how Carlin's logical approach to life could make people angry. Also Carlin himself has said he's not an athiest.
